Rethink Your Thinking by C.L.N.Prakash

                                     “ Rethink Your Thinking” by C. L. N. Prakash

Introduction:

Dr. C.L.N. Prakash is a highly experienced Training Consultant. He has worked with the British Council and Cambridge ESOL. He has served as a teacher, trainer, administrator, and author. In his article "Rethink Your Thinking", he advises people to think in pictures and to use lateral thinking to solve problems in new and better ways.

Think Visually

Dr. Prakash says that many great thinkers used pictures in their minds instead of only using words. He gives examples of famous people who used visual thinking:

  1. Einstein – imagined pictures to explain the Theory of Relativity.
  2. William Harvey – used mental images to understand the Circulation of Blood.
  3. David Hilbert – explained the Concept of Infinity using mental pictures.

These examples show us that thinking visually helps in better understanding and creativity.

Think Laterally

Lateral thinking means thinking in a new and different way instead of following the usual path.

Dr. Prakash gives an example: In an office, many employees came late regularly.

  • Step 1: The manager spoke to them individually, but it did not work.
  • Step 2: He raised the issue in a staff meeting, but still, no change.
  • Finally, he tried a different idea. He clicked pictures of the office every 15 minutes in the morning and pinned them on the notice board.
This made the staff realize their mistake, and they started coming on time.

This is a perfect example of lateral thinking — solving a problem by thinking in a new way.

Don’t Assume Boundaries That Aren’t There

Dr. Prakash says we should not create imaginary limits in our minds.
For example, if someone asks us to plant four plants, we usually plant them in a straight line with equal distance. But no one told us to do that
This kind of thinking limits our creativity. We must learn to think outside the box.

Set Some Limits

While thinking freely is important, having some limits is also necessary. Dr. Prakash says that time limits help us stay focused. When there is no deadline, we often get lazy or distracted.
So, setting limits makes us more disciplined and effective in our thinking.

Conclusion

In "Rethink Your Thinking", Dr. C.L.N. Prakash encourages us to become better thinkers by changing how we think. He tells us to think using images, use lateral thinking, and avoid imaginary boundaries. At the same time, he reminds us to set time limits to stay focused. These four ways of thinking will help us to be more creative, practical, and successful.
